The 2020 iPhones will be four with 5G and OLED screens

In a note, JP Morgan Chase argues that the iPhone's that Apple will present in the fall of 2020 will be the trigger for a resurgence in the high sales of US flagship devices. Traditionally, Apple announces its new devices every September, with the commercial launch coming a few weeks later. In this way, iPhones are in store shelves during the Christmas season, when peak sales are also recorded. In the following period sales are gradually declining until next September, when a new set of devices is introduced.

This is the renewal cycle of Apple's devices. Of course the success of each cycle is influenced by various factors, such as the number of people with older devices ready to upgrade their device as well as the general economic situation in the global economy. It should also be borne in mind that Apple products are not as cheap. In any case, however, critical success factors (or failures) are the technical features embodied in the iPhone family. JP Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee says in its note, according to the US CNBC network, that the Apple family of devices for 2020 will consist of a total of four models, with some of them incorporating major upgrades in technical features.

Alongside, predicts that the new devices will feature, inter alia, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), high-speed modems for internet connectivity and virtual reality technology elements. "We expect that three of the iPhones in September 2020 will adopt OLED screens (5.4 inches, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches) combined with a basic access modem for 5G networks. In addition, at least two of these three models will adopt Face Sensing 3D Sensing and AR / VR (Virtual and Enhanced Reality) features, "says Samik Chatterjee. Remember that today's OLED displays feature the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which are significantly more expensive than the models wearing LCD display screens like the iPhone XR. The 5G networks promise to dramatically increase Internet connection speeds compared to today's 4G and 3G networks, while Apple models already have 3D front cameras. Interestingly, Apple predicts that it will be able to sell up to 195 million iPhones in 2020, while the estimate for 2019 is in the range of 180 million devices.

Recall that Apple has stopped announcing segment-level sales since the end of the 2018 financial year, limited only to revenue. Finally, JP Morgan analysts believe that Apple will be more keen to enter the category of more affordable devices. This may be done with a low cost iPhone that will come in the natural dimensions of today's iPhone 8 but without the 5G modem or OLED display, IE the data that significantly increase costs. For devices expected to be released next September, JP Morgan believes it will be three, without upgrading to their modems and without significant external display changes.
